Bringing over 25 years of international broadcasting experience and strong journalistic skills to creating dynamic international conferences and events
Sharanjit Lely is a familiar face to many as the BBC's former World News anchor, and presenter of Asia Business Report and Newsday. Today she is a top-level international event host, moderator, and chairperson, engaging audiences across a diverse range of industries and geographies, and in May 2024 made history becoming the first Singaporean Chancellor of a British University at Bath Spa University. She enjoys a board career moderating events, as well as advising companies and educational institutions on diversity, inclusion, environmental and media strategy. She also serves on several company boards.
She uses her considerable experience as a broadcaster for more than 25 years covering international business, geopolitics, finance, technology and sustainability to now moderate high-level debates for the United Nations, the ADB and other multilateral and financial institutions, and creating engaging discussions with business summits, client forums and leadership events.
At BBC, she has also produced some noteworthy documentaries, including the highly acclaimed 'Singapore at 50' and 'Secrets of Singapore' which featured interviews with former leaders and pioneers who made Singapore one of the 20th century's economic success stories. High profile interviews have included the Prime Ministers of Canada, New Zealand, Australia, Thailand, Pakistan, Malaysia and Singapore, the Presidents of the Philippines and East Timor, as well as the heads of the World Bank, IMF, and countless chief executives and chairmen and women of Fortune 500 companies.
Prior to her career with the BBC in 2003 she was previously with Bloomberg TV in Tokyo, and with Bridge Information Systems financial news service before that. She began her journalist career with the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation in 1997 after earning her degree in Journalism and English Literature from The University of Maryland College Park (Washington DC) and her Masters degree in English Literature from the University of British Columbia.
